Talk Talk Talk: Christmas Crafts are a-coming!
Hi ya,
I know, we have not included any tutorials for Christmas things to make. The reasons are many, one is that there are too many on the net already. Our main reason is that we are sick of Christmas and other holiday crafts.
Australians are known for our less-is-more approach to decoration (maybe we are all minimalists at heart), but in the last few years, Christmas decorations around our cities are becoming more and more obnoxious. I can’t stand it. I hate to go to the shops during this period. Enough is enough, loud carols blaring, santa bells, visual onslaught of fake holly and fir trees (don’t grow here), snow (it is 40 degrees outside), Dancing Santas, Elves, Reindeers. I leave the shops with a headache and a grim view of Christmas.
Where did all the loveliness go? Where are the handmade cards made by grubby little hands who have misspelt words? Where are the ten year-old stockings ready for their holes to be mended? Where is the simplicity?
Where is the acknowledgement that we do need space, serenity, detentes, peace, even during the festive season?
Anyway, back to original talk. I have not included Christmas tutorials because I am too overwhelmed by the mass of them and the glitter.
But I have found some lovely, simple little ideas, which may seem silly in their simplicity. And I will include these in the next few days.

Here here! I’d enjoy Christmas lots more if it was more about the spirit and less about parties and presents and obligations etc.

Well said. I even don’t feel like going to the shops to buy food because there are ugly decorations and Santa chocoloate stuff things nastiness everywhere for two months.
Where did all the lovelyness go indeed.

oh I couldn’t agree more. Here in the U.S. they started bombarding us with Christmas stuff in October this year. I can’t stand it, too much excess and focus on buying junk you wouldn’t even think about spending money on the rest of the year! Give me the simple, quiet,tastful hand made holidays any day.

I agree wholeheartedly with you. I feel that the mass market merchandisers are ruining the holiday by pushing holiday stuff so early. And most of it is tacky tacky tacky. I much prefer a quiet simple, musical and family-gathering holiday.
