OHC November Craft Challenge and Swap!

Thanks for all the great ideas for our November Craft Challenge and Swap. Please join in!

Our One Hour Craft Challenge for November is to Make a Journal. This month you can also enter your creation into our November Swap! After the success of our last two swaps we are really looking forward to this one.

The November Swap is a Journal Swap!

We are setting a limit of 100 people in this swap.   Let your friends know!

If you are new to swaps, here is how it works: 100 people enter their names. We randomly pair people from all over the world.

We then let you contact each other and let each other now your mailing address.
Then you make a gorgeous journal or cover a blank journal and send it to your partner by the date outlined.  Make contact with your partner and make sure that you are both sending out your items on the same day.

Please don’t hold us responsable for the other person being unreliable (although on the Net, I have found that people who bother to enter swaps are usually really reliable and some of the gifts I have received have been awesome). Please understand, that like everything in life, there is an element of risk involved. That is what also makes this so fun and exciting.

The swap is open to anyone who can fulfil their part of the deal…Please be willing to ship overseas when you sign up… You can ask your partner about their tastes and colours they prefer if you choose…

Want to join? Here’s what to do (it’s really important that you follow the instructions to be included).

  1. Email me at mariabinns@hotmail.com
  2.  Please have OHC November Swap as the title of the email
  3. In the email include your name
  4. We will leave the address swapping to you and your partner

Please ship your packages by 21 November.

We will take for the next week. We will then send out the swap names and email addresses a few days after than. Then it is up to you..

Please check back here for more details. Please pass the word on on your blog or by email to your mates.

This will be so much fun!!!

How to Make Scary Spiders for Halloween and Other Stuff

p1010973.jpg

(Gumnut Redback Spider for Halloween)

Halloween is not really celebrated in Australia. But this year we are having a Halloween-themed birthday party for a certain little girl who is turning eight. Every year I get so excited about the birthday celebration. We have been spending a lot of time brainstorming and organising.

I thought I would share with you how to make a redback spider for Halloween. We are using these spiders as decorations. We have made over 50 so far so they should look great en masse. These are so easy to make.
How to Make Gumnut Spiders

Materials

Gumnuts

Black Gloss Spray Paint

Black Pipe Cleaners

Hot Glue Gun

Red Glitter Glue

Method

  1. Lay the gumnuts on sheets of paper and spray them black with the spray paint. Make sure that you turn them over and spray the bottom as well. Leave them to dry.
  2. Take a black pipe cleaner and cut it into thirds. Put the three pieces between your fingers and twist them together in the middle.
  3. When the gumnuts are dry take your hot glue gun and place a dab of glue on the gumnut just below the lip of it (who knows if that is the correct terminology, somehow I doubt it). Then stick the middle of the pipe cleaner legs onto the glue.
  4. Bend the pipe cleaners so that they look like little legs.
  5. With a paint brush, paint a dab of red glitter paint onto the back of the spider.

It is that easy and we had so much fun making them!

I thought I would also share some of the other ideas we came up with for the children’s Halloween party. Firstly here are the black cat invitations..

p1010971.jpg

I got myself into all sorts of knots wanting the invitations to be perfect. Then we came up with these designs and Milly loved them. They were really easy to make also. I have a passion for paper and cardmaking stores and love the dye-cuts. We found these cat dyes and cut them out in black card. I just sewed on a small piece of paper for the background, Milly stuck on the cat and we used diamontes for the eyes. You all must know how much I love sewing on paper! It just makes me happy :)

Other ideas for the party…..

We are making a ….

  • Black Cat Cake
  • Black Spider Pinata
  • Red jelly cups with gum snakes coming out of them.
  • Black Cauldrons, by spray painting some pots black, filling in the hole in the bottom with filler and filling them with dry ice.
  • Witches hat little cakes
  • Lolly bags in the shape of pumpkins. I have been thinking about these every night for about a month and have not yet come up with the perfect design. Am struggling for a better design than the lolly bags for last year’s party. Remember the humbug bags?
  • Pass the parcel

I am going to be quite busy this week!

Have a good time!

Mia

OHC Spring/Fall Swap

G’day,

Well, I have been thinking for a while now that it is about time for another swap.   To be honest, I was a little disappointed with the apron swap because I put in all the effort and we had over 100 people in it, then very few people uploaded photos or ever let me know how it went.  I sorted out all the problems but then didn’t hear about many of the happy stories.  I was like “c’mon people, show me the love..”.  I would have loved to see everyone’s goodies.

Let’s make a deal… I’ll do all the behind-the-scenes fiddly work and answer all the emails, questions for the next swap but you guys upload the photos to Flickr and give me the joy of seeing your creations – and everyone else for that matter.  OK let’s shake on it… Good I feel much better.

One question - What shall we make?  I am fresh out of ideas.  Please leave suggestions….

On other unrelated news… I have just updated my Facebook profile so feel free to add me as a friend.  I got a profile when it first started, then thought I would wait.  I was a little tired of MySpace, Zaadz etc and wanted to see if Facebook had more to offer before I bothered putting any time into.  And I am happy to say that it has had rave reviews from all the techo-geek blogs I read AND it is for big people too.  Yay!  So join and add me.  My profile is under Mia Binns but you can use my hotmail address to add me (mariabinns@hotmail.com) OK.

Will be back soon with the beginning of our swap and also some Halloween crafty fun!

Happy Day!

Mia

Hi all. Just when you think you may never fall in love again — I have fallen in love with the new seasons bold, bright colour combinations. They make me feel so happy and inspired. I loved these crazy colour combinations from the recent issue of Vogue Girl (above) so inspiring I just had to share. Here are more images to inspire…

Experimenting with different colour combinations is so fun. Try this random stripe generator at Kiss Your Shadow for some fun.

Have a happy old time.

PS How obvious is it that I am on holiday? Very. I know. And off on a lovely little break soon.
